Even if you owe money, the law protects you against unlawful debt collection conduct. See our fact sheets on What can I do if a debt collector calls? for more information.
This Debt Collector Contact Record allows you to record contact by a debt collector. Recording contacts may help you to make a complaint or in some cases seek compensation if the collector behaves illegally. Please refer to our fact sheets on Seeking Compensation in VCAT and Debt Collection – seeking compensation in relation to consumer credit and lease contracts for more information.
Remember calls are often recorded, so make sure your record is as accurate as possible.
Important: If you cannot pay, or are refusing to pay a debt, get urgent advice on whether you in fact owe the debt, the consequences for you of not paying and how to immediately stop any distressing conduct by a debt collector. See our factsheet What can I do if a debt collector calls? for more information.
